Q : What do I need to study for the competency test?
A : There is nothing you need to study for the competency test. It is based on logic and comprehension only.
Q : Why is there a cost for the competency test?
A : This is an administrative fee.
Q : Am I able to purchase lunch?
A : Yes.
Q : Is there parking at VZAP?
A : Yes, there is parking on our premises.
Q : Do I need my own computer?
A : Yes. VZAP recommends any laptop with an i3 processor or later. You will be required to bring it to class each day. 8GB of RAM is highly recommended.
Q : What operating system should I have?
A : Windows, Linux or MacOS.
Q : Do I have to buy any material such as books?
A : No. All the course material required is provided by VZAP.
Q : How much does it cost?
A : Apart from a nominal R300 fee to go through the acceptance testing process, the training is free of charge as long as, after the course the candidate completes the compulsory 2 years of in service training.
Q : Employment and salary after the 25 week training period?
A : Students benefit by being placed with a company for 2 years and they receive a monthly salary and valuable experience. There is also the possibility of being employed permanently after that period, should the company involved choose to make the student an offer. VZAP’s success rate for placing employees with companies is also very high.
Q : Do I need any programming experience?
A : No previous programming experience is needed. We take students from a point where they don't know how to programme all the way through to being able to develop an industrial strength application.
Q : VZAP branches in Cape Town and Durban?
A : No, only in Johannesburg, Houghton Estate area. We do however place candidates in Cape-Town.
Q : Part Time Courses available?
A : Only Full-Time training
Q : Can I continue with my studies at the University while studying at VZAP?
A : No, the training course requires full time commitment. But we do recommend to continue with further tertiary education on a part time basis during the Module 6 in-service training.
Q : What does the VZAP training course entails?
A : Students who are selected for the programme are taught the core concepts and principles of programming in Java using object-oriented analysis and design methodologies.
Q : Will there be expected of me to do extra learning after hours?
A : The course consists of 6 modules, full-time, presented over a 25-week period. Students work 7 and a half hours in class and then get homework. So, it’s really hard work, and you really need the passion and the drive to be able to pull through therefore you will need to work extra hours at home on a daily basis.
Q : What attitude do I need to have to be successful at VZAP?
A : You need a positive attitude and the willingness to learn plus a passion for programming computers.
Q : Do I need to be a South African citizen and why?
A : Yes. Our clients require to employ only South African citizens.
Q : How high are VZAP’s testing standards?
A : Test are written on a weekly basis. The overall success of a student is determined by the written testing as well as his/her work ethics, team participation and the right attitude.
